Back in December, in a room full of new mothers all at various stages in their postpartum journey, the feeling of needing to be appreciated in a tangible way was palpable. Motherhood is hard. It is a roller coaster ride of good days and bad days. Energetic days and tiring days. Got it together days and hot mess days.

And sometimes you just need someone to acknowledge it and give you a hug and high five and remind you that you are indeed doing a great job.

Someone suggested a massage. Everyone agreed. Chama jumped in with an excited YES! We could do that to celebrate you at Mother’s Day. A sigh was let out, and clearly the need for this nourishment was needed sooner than May!

And an idea was born.

mothering with courageOn Saturday, February 13, arguably the coldest day of this winter, over 50 moms joined us at Veda Studios for a Mom’s Appreciation event. Many mothers were frequent participants in our Saturday support group, MomBrain, others had attended a childbirth education class at Homegrown Babies, and others were new and looking for quality connection.

The mamas came with their babies in arms and enjoyed an afternoon of conversation, chocolates from French Broad Chocolates, massage by Asheville School of Massage and Yoga, mom and me photo sessions by Jessie Fultz Photography, foot baths and tea.

We loved interacting with all of the mamas and their precious wee ones. We hope this event filled your heart and allowed you the time and place to truly feel appreciated.

Photos from the day can be viewed online. We look forward to celebrating with you all again soon. Mamas and babies from birth to toddler are welcome to join us at MomBrain on Saturdays 1:00-2:30 p.m. at Veda Studios located at 853 Merrimon Ave, Asheville. The group is free to attend. Donations collected benefit a variety of charities that support women and mothers.
